Here is Alex slaving away at 12:30am Sunday January 1st 2012.
Months ago I decided that the tradition I dearly needed to implement was cheesecake breakfast for New Year's Day. We made the base earlier in the night and then enjoyed safe drinking (okay, I enjoyed safe drinking - he's on call and so the sober partner of late) and a movie marathon until the ball dropped and 2012 officially entered New Zealand.
A while later we realized that we'd better get a crack on the cheesecake filling so it would set in time for me to eat it.
Because, unlike many of you - despite drinking and being up late, I woke up around 7am and was out of bed by half past. Sick, I know. Anyway, due to my crazy wake up promptly on days off illness, I needed the cheesecake in the fridge before I got in bed.
Which we succeeded in.
Oh, and because I am me and Alex is him, we finally bought a bottle of Chambord to soothe my desires. He was a little concerned it would turn the filling pink, but it did not. In fact, I think I should have put more in.
Also, that knife in the lower left? It helped me scoop all the double cream out of the container. Double cream - 1) that we've never used before having instead mistakenly believed it was sold here in NZ as 'thickened cream' in a pot and 2) that I got at the most happy place I visited in the month of December, the Wangapeka Downs Dairy shop not 15 minutes drive from my house. I plan on making weekly, or at least bi-weekly, visits through 2012. Yum.
So...after I did some nice Yoga and Alex got up and out of bed (he read a book while I did the hippie thing), we had a glorious New Year's Day breakfast and I definitely will be looking forward to making this a proper tradition.
Scottish Coffee + Berry Covered Cheesecake + Parfait Glass of Kir Royale = HELLO 2012, nice to meet you!
Jealous much?
Yes, very jealous! Looks divine! Happy new year, dear friend!
